What is Deep Learning?
Deep learning is a form of machine learning that uses algorithms based on neural networks and is meant to mimic natural human behavior. The system learns to perform classification tasks directly from images, text, or even sound. Models are trained with large sets of labeled data and neural network architectures that can learn directly from what’s been inputted.
What differentiates deep learning from being labeled as simply machine learning is that deep learning algorithms are capable of working with what’s called ‘unstructured data,’ like text and images, and it learns to extract features that helps sort as required. In machine learning, this feature extraction must be manually established by a human.
One example of this is in cybersecurity. Artificial intelligence (AI) trained with deep learning can help recognize patterns of identity theft, flagging potential risks even as the landscape of fraud shifts. This has grown increasingly important amid the rise of falsified and manipulated digital information.
