GLOSSARYStable Diffusion

Stable Diffusion is an artificial intelligence (AI) created by the CompVis group at LMU Munich that uses deep learning to create images from text descriptions.

What is Stable Diffusion?

Stable Diffusion is an artificial intelligence (AI) created by the CompVis group at LMU Munich that uses deep learning to create images from text descriptions. Much in the same way as DALL-E and Midjourney, Stable Diffusion is a generative AI, meaning that it’s trained with machine learning techniques to output images.

What makes Stable Diffusion different is that it’s open source, meaning that the code is freely available to be modified and currently has very few constraints on what can be generated. In addition, it uses diffusion-denoising technology, allowing for existing images to be redrawn by the model, and then incorporate new elements inputted by the text prompt.

While this opens amazing doors to the creative potential of machine learning, you should always be aware of those using the technology in bad faith. As AI generated images become more photorealistic, malicious parties may use this technology to forge images and information. Always be certain that the information you’re viewing has been secured and unaltered.
